Utilizing Your Network

Does your network know what you do?

No really,

Are you sure they do?

Whether we realize it or not - we all have a large network

  • family

  • friends

  • acquaintances

  • the staff + regulars that we run into in our favourite places

  • the business cards we swapped at events - even the online ones this year

  • social media friends ( Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Clubhouse)

This is our free, and one of our most productive marketing channels - and not many take full advantage of it. I understand not wanting to come across in a sales focused tone,

However -

telling someone what we are passionate about and what we really spend our professional time doing - can just be that, a conversation or email expressing what we do, how we serve, and what we offer.

Most of the time when I ask clients to check in with 15 people (the people they talk the most with) to ask them if they know what they do, and what they offer - the response I get afterward on the other end - is usually complete shock.

Why?

When we are doing what we do, and working our business, we assume those around us get it - that they could put your name in the ring when someone is seeking support or a solution, and that they even know how to find us online - on all platforms. I hate to say this, but they don’t, and it’s not their fault, it’s ours.

Solution -

Make the list

  • start a spreadsheet

  • put their info in and how you are going to reach out (email, Instagram, Facebook - whatever)

  • put a column in for any special request or intention that comes up

*don’t be scared to ask people in your network for aligned referrals and warm introductions

  • prep an info sheet on what you do, who it’s for, etc

  • include any special request or intention

  • include contact info, social media links, and website link

Then, connect with them. And ask if there is anything they would like to share with you.

  • on the spreadsheet track the outreach, and track any business or warm referrals you receive from each person after it goes out

  • follow up and thank them for their support

Word of mouth makes most businesses go round. And, the next time someone in their network brings up something they need, your network will be able to put your info forward.

Spend time here.

Ask even 10 people in your core circle to tell you - what you do, how you do it, and who you help - this will help you understand better what work needs to be done and what you need to prepare for your info sheet.

Connection and building relationships are everything. Enjoy the process.
